GEOGRAPHY

As an interdisciplinary field, Geography examines the role of space and place in history, sociology, anthropology, biology and a number of other disciplines. Geography also studies the physical and earth sciences.

The coverage of the Geography list illustrates Geography's interdisciplinary nature by covering history and the general subject areas of geography. Specific works that cover a range of sub-discipline areas such a political geography and physical geography were included and every attempt was made to include the best works in fields such as geomorphology, human geography and cultural studies. Moreover, reference works that are essential for undergraduate work, such as atlases, have been given a great deal of coverage.

Technical aspects in the field of Geography include remote sensing, geographic information systems, and visualization. Attempts to include generalized selections on these subjects were made, however, due to the technical nature of these aspects of the discipline, more advanced texts were included to ensure proper coverage. Problematic areas are in geographies of ancient and medieval times, as well as texts on exploration. More materials were available in physical, human, and technological areas of geography.

Almost all items chosen were found in print and every effort was made to find the most recent texts in the field, except texts considered to be essential regardless of age.
