Search Results

When you browse or search in RCL and retrieve more than one item, the results will be displayed in a Search Results page.  All Search Results pages have the same features, differing only in the titles each displays.  Across the top, in a yellow box, is the Quick search

Below this are a row of green function buttons which allow you to do various things with some or all of your search results: view individual records, download, E-mail, or print a list of records, or submit comments or corrections to one or more records.

Below these green function buttons is a legend explaining the various icons used in the Search Results page.

Below the legend are two boxes:  one allows you to select all the items on the current screen, while the other clears all the check boxes on the current screen.  These check boxes work in conjunction with the green function buttons

Below this, finally, are the search results.  To access the full display for an item, either click on the cover image or the hyperlinked Title.

To the left of the search results you’ll find a count of the total items in the results and the number displayed in the current screen.  In addition, you’ll find an explanation of how the search results were generated (for instance, which subject heading was browsed, or what search syntax generated these particular results).

Below this summary you will find a "New Search" and "Revise Search" link.

New Search - will take you back to the advanced search page with no search terms entered; allowing you to enter a completely new search.

Revise Search - will take you back to your search page with your previous search terms already entered.

Below this summary you’ll find the primary and secondary sort orders.  The default sort for search results is always descending by publication date (that is, most recent works first), but you can reorder your search results according to one or two criteria, in either ascending or descending order.  Change to the drop-down menus and radio buttons and click the go button to resort your results.

Your sort fields are: pub date, title, author, Dewey #, LC Class #, ISBN, Price and Publisher.

Below the Sort Order you’ll find links to the various “Browse by…” pages

At the bottom of the page you will find the search results page navigation buttons.  To page forward, click "next page", to page backward, click "previous page".  To go to a specific page, click on the hyperlinked page number.

Finally, at the bottom of the search results is a drop-down menu which allows you to control the number of results displayed on a single page: the default is 25, but you can change this to 5, 10, 15, or 50 items per page.  Please not that the “Check All Items” and “Uncheck All Items” boxes discussed above apply only to the records displayed on the current page, while the sort order applies to all records in a given Search results, even if they take up multiple pages.
